Not exactly the most shocking of news here, considering the amounts of drugs Amy used through out the years, but British pop singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home today (July 23rd, 2011), various news outlets are reporting.
No cause has been determined yet. Police officers found Winehouse at around 4 PM London time after someone called for an ambulance. Again, this news probably won’t come as a shock to anyone who has followed Winehouse’s career, which sadly, was constantly jeopardized by her ongoing substance abuse issues and intertwined relationship dramas with her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
Earlier this week, Winehouse appeared at a performance by her teenage goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield, where she reportedly “‘staggered onstage and grabbed the mic to beg the crowd to buy her protege’s new album’”. As the video footage below shows, Winehouse was looking pretty out of it. A few weeks ago she even canceled a European tour after she was booed off the stage during a shambolic performance in Belgrade, Serbia.
VIDEO OF AMY WINEHOUSE’S LAST PUBLIC APPEARANCE:
As much as we normally like to joke around, we tend to leave out the jokes for posts about someone dying. The things we might have mostly associated Amy Winehouse with, were drug and alcohol abuse. At times she was like a certain hotel heiress – but with a much bigger drug problem. We sometimes forget she was a singer too – and unlike the hotel heiress – she actually had marketable skills and was an incredibly gifted singer who was unfortunately haunted by demons she just couldn’t shake. At least now she is at peace.
Lastly, we want to personally thank Amy for introducing us to our favorite word in the English language; “fuckery”.
