Veteran actor Michael Douglas has opened up to People about his battle with throat cancer, which he learned of in early August.
Douglas is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, and said of the process, "It's a fight. It really knocks you out."
Wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, whom Douglas is frequently heard gushing about, also shared, "The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired."
The couple took a straightforward approach when revealing the news to their young children Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7. Zeta-Jones said, "Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now."
Douglas touched on his year thus far, calling it a "tough" one, after watching his 31-year-old son Cameron (from a previous marriage,) be sent to prison for drug possession and dealing.
In an interview with David Letterman via PopEater, Douglas also revealed further details of the stage four cancer, saying that it has remained above the neck, giving him an 80%+ chance of recovery. He also said that he believes years of drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and stress were contributing factors to the throat cancer.
Zeta-Jones and Douglas, who said that he will "beat this," will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary on November 18th.

The Oscar-winning Michael Douglas, at age 65, is fighting throat cancer. He is planning to undergo chemotherapy, People magazine reported Monday. He is set to receive eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment, according to his spokesperson.
His doctors are very positive and expect Douglas to make a full recovery. “I am very optimistic,” Douglas was quoted as saying in a statement. So it doesn’t seem like the Make A Wish Foundation needs to spend much time worrying about ole Michael.
At least if he doesn’t get better, he still has the most important thing in the world: a free pass to bang Catherine Zeta-Jones. But, even with that, we wish you well Mikey!

She's now a happy mom-of-two, but actress Catherine Zeta-Jones admits that the prospect of motherhood once scared her.
“It was scary becoming a mother, it’s the unknown. I was 30 when I had my first," the Oscar-winner admits. "I wasn’t the kind of girl who always wanted babies, I never played with dolls. So I didn’t know if I had it in me.”
These days she can't imagine life without Dylan, 9, and Carys, 7, her kids with her husband Michael Douglas.
"They crack me up. You learn so much from them every day, it’s wonderful,” Catherine says.
Though she still works - her latest film, The Rebound, hits theaters this year - she reveals that her career now takes a backseat to her family life.
"My priorities changed when I had children. I have to be passionate and committed about something if it’s going to take me away from them," Catherine says. “I used to be able to pack my bags and go. I’m not saying I miss it at all – I’m very happy to do one movie a year and stay at home.”

Wall Street star Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary in November. The 65-year-old said of the milestone, "It isn't bad for 'the couple who were never going to last', right?"
Like many celebrity couples, Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who are parents to two children together, Dylan, 9, and Carys, 7, met on the set of a film. Douglas, who is exactly 25-years Zeta-Jones' senior, said of their meeting,
She was a tremendous surprise. I was getting along quite well as a single guy and then I got struck down. I was bowled over by Catherine."
Douglas has one son from his 23-year marriage to ex-wife Diandra Lurker, Cameron, who is currently serving time in jail for possession and dealing of drugs. Douglas has taken responsibility for his part in his sons downfall, saying, "I've taken blame about being a bad father – if being a bad father is working your butt off trying to create a career at one time. When I had Cameron I was early in my career and as opposed to most jobs, making movies takes you all around the world, so you were absentee in that sense."

Wall Street star Michael Douglas spoke with the Today Show about his 31-year-old son Cameron's 5-year prison sentence for dealing and possession of drugs. The actor is putting a positive spin on the experience, reports PEOPLE, saying,
My son has not been sober for this length of time since he was 13 years old. So he was going to be dead or somebody was gonna kill him, and I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that. And from my understanding, it's going to take that amount of time for him to rebuild and start himself afresh."
Douglas has two other children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dylan, 9, and Carys, 6. Though he has openly taken responsibility in the past his role in Cameron's demise, Douglas also defends his parenting, "I've taken blame about being a bad father – if being a bad father is working your butt off trying to create a career at one time. When I had Cameron I was early in my career and as opposed to most jobs, making movies takes you all around the world, so you were absentee in that sense."
On top of 5-years in prison, Cameron Douglas received $25,000 in fines, must serve 450 hours of community service and he is also required to spend 5 years in a supervised release program upon release from prison.

Cameron Douglas, the 31-year-old son of the actor Michael Douglas, was sentenced to five years in prison on drug-related charges in Federal District Court in Manhattan on Tuesday. Federal Judge Richard Berman announced the sentence after hearing Cameron apologize and admit that he had squandered a lot of opportunities to turn his life around.
The judge said earlier that he did not have confidence that Douglas would turn his back on drugs after pleading guilty in January to drug charges.
But he also criticised Michael and ex-wife Diandra for being ‘distant’, ‘problematic’ and immature’ parents when Cameron was growing up.
He said: ‘While his family states, and I believe their intentions are sincere in doing this, they are ready to step in in any way and do the right thing, I respectfully say they do not explain what has changed in their lives that would enable them to do things differently with Cameron today than they did before.’
Cameron, 31-year-old admitted to dealing methamphetamine and cocaine and had faced a ten-year term.
After his sentencing, Michael, 65, looked deep in thought as he left the court with ex-wife Diandra by his side.
He refused to talk to the waiting press as he and Diandra left the court and made their way to a car.
Shortly before sentencing, Michael had cut an anxious and worried figure as he arrived at the federal court.
The 65-year-old actor looked distracted and concerned as he joined Diandra, 51, Cameron’s mother, who looked like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders as she arrived at the court flanked by security.
Last night, the actor looked sombre as he stepped out in New York City as he asked a judge to show leniency to his troubled son.
Douglas, who is now married to Welsh-born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, attended the Scad Style design event in Manhattan.
In a handwritten, five-page letter made public last night, the 65-year-old admits a family history of drug and alcohol abuse contributed towards his son’s descent.
Cameron, a DJ and sometime-actor, was arrested last July after he was found in possession of $18,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine in a New York hotel room.
Cameron pleaded guilty earlier this year to drug dealing and his lawyers claimed it was simply a way of funding his addiction and asking the judge to consider a 47-month term.
In a letter to Judge Richard Berman, Douglas wrote: ‘I love my son, but I’m not blind to his actions. I don’t want to see him break.
‘He is an adult and responsible for his own actions. We do know, however, that genes, family and peer pressure are a strong influence on a substance abuser.’
In the letter, Douglas admitted he was often absent during his son’s childhood and the family had dealt with several substance abuse problems.
The Wall Street star admitted he was treated at a Arizona clinic in the 1990s for alcohol abuse, while his brother Eric Douglas died of a drug overdose in 2004.
Douglas, who grew up with a famous father himself in Kirk Douglas, continued: ‘I have some idea of the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father.
‘I’m not sure I can comprehend it with two generations to deal with.’
Douglas admitted his frequent absence during Cameron’s childhood and his ‘bad marriage’ to his first wife Diandra Douglas, drove the teenager into gangs.
Douglas wrote: ‘Cameron grew up a single child in a bad marriage. Cameron found his family in the gang mentality.’
Cameron developed a drug problem when he was 13 and Douglas said his current spell behind bars is his longest period of sobriety since.
The actor said he cherished his weekly two hour visits to Cameron at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
He explained: ‘He’s sober. I get to witness the wonderful young man he can be. He maintains his spirit, blames no one but himself and recognises his criminal activity began with his heroin use.’
Douglas’s letter joined other handwritten pleas by his wife Catherine and father Kirk for mercy.
Cameron’s stepmother Zeta-Jones, 40, wrote: ‘Never in my experience over the years has Cameron shown any signs of the disease that has tormented him, toward his siblings or has ever been abusive to us as a family at any time.
‘My stepson is a caring, considerate, worthy human being, but never the less, the disease, that for years he has tried to combat, did take over again.
‘What is wrong, is wrong, but may all these positive attributes prevail, so that a facility that he is positioned in, will help rehabilitate him.’
Spartacus legend Kirk Douglas, 93, told the judge that it was his dying wish to see his grandson turn his life around.
He wrote: ‘Cameron was always a pleasant guy who cared for others. It was a surprise to me when he got in trouble.
‘I am convinced that Cameron could be a fine actor and a person that cares for others. I hope I can see that happen before I die. I love Cameron.’

Cameron Douglas, the troubled 31-year-old son of Michael Douglas, is set to face a federal judge and possibly 10 or more years in prison.
Over two dozen appeals from Cameron's friends and family have been written in his support, People reports. One of the letters is from his famous stepmother Catherine Zeta-Jones. The 40-year-old Academy Award-winning actress asked the judge to consider Cameron's "positive attributes" while considering the drug charges against him.
As a mother to Cameron's half brother and sister, Dylan and Carys, I have seen Cameron be an exceptional brother to both. Never, in my experience over the years, has Cameron shown any signs of the disease, that has tormented him, toward his siblings, or has [he] ever been abusive to us as a family at any time.

Michael Douglas has dumped his “Greed is good” catchphrase and pulled out of the stock market after losing almost half his fortune.
The Hollywood actor – who made the motto famous as trader Gordon Gekko in 1987 film Wall Street – says he chased the big bucks for years.
Then it all came tumbling down. The actor, 65, said: “I lost 35 to 40 per cent of my net worth on the 2008 crash.”
Despite prices starting to recover, he was shocked into ending his profiteering – and pulled most of his cash from stocks. He revealed: “At the end of last year, I took a whole bunch out.”
But he admitted he had loved his earlier years of gambling on the markets like slimy Gekko.
The movie veteran said: “I played. Years ago, through the tech booms, I definitely did it.
Michael, who is married to Catherine Zeta Jones, 40, is estimated to be worth more than $220 million. He owns homes in New York and Bermuda. A sequel to Gekko’s story, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, is out in September.
It follows the character after a jail term for insider trading.
Douglas said co-star Shia LaBeouf, 23, played the markets to get into his role. He told Esquire mag: “He took $20,000 and in six weeks he was up to $380,000. He did all right.”

Michael, who has two children with wife Catherine Zeta Jones – Dylan and sister Carys, 6 – is also dad to 31-year-old Cameron with his first wife, Diandra Luker.

Late last year, Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas relocated their family from Bermuda to New York City. During a recent visit to the Late Show with David Letterman, the 40-year-old America's Sweethearts actress revealed their reasons for the big move.
“It was to etiquette the kids and just to come back and enjoy this fantastic city we’re able to live in,” she explains. However, the loss of anonymity has taken some getting used to for their two children, son Dylan, 9, and daughter Carys, 6 ½.
Well, for them, they were naked opening the back door — so was I — and just running out naked into the garden and it’s really hard to do that in Central Park.”
And while she's feeling good about the big move, Catherine admitted to feeling the need for another family member.
I said to him, ‘Darling, I really want another baby or a puppy,” she jokes. “And that puppy came FedEx so quick! I mean, I never thought FedEx was that good!”
Do you feel comfortable being naked around your kids?

Catherine Zeta-Jones showed audiences the doctor prescribed electroshock treatment to keep Michael Douglas alive: boob flashing twice a day and taken down with a glass of water.
According to PageSix, Catherine flashed her breasts to theater-goers last week, stunning the unsuspecting audience of her play ‘A Little Night Music’ on New York’s Broadway. Catherine apparently opened her kimono a little too much during a scene where she turns her back to the audience and flashes her long lost lover, thus revealing her breasts to the left side of the audience.
A theatre-goer said: “I couldn’t believe it. No wonder Michael Douglas looks so happy. The couple sitting next to me also saw it and poked each other.”
Critics have not been kind to Catherine for her portrayal of 19th century Swede Desiree in the production, with one blasting her for not being able to sing and act at the same time.

Alex Rodriguez broke up with Kate Hudson last week after dating her for 7 months and apparently the reason behind it was not because he got tired of fishing for boobs and getting chest cavity in return but that she constantly wanted to be in front of cameras. Sources say Hudson wanted cameras filming her at every one of Rodriguez’s Yankees games; something that “turned him off”.
“[Kate] wanted more camera time each and every game. She would always want to be styled before games and she’d insist on front-row seats. It was a turnoff to have a girlfriend who always wanted to be on camera. Alex wanted someone who was more interested in building a long-term relationship than just building their profile,” claims an insider.
And we’re totally buying that. Because A-Rod was recently spotted partying with a group of women in Miami obviously on his way to building long-term relationships with them by using them as buns for his hot-dog (extra mustard applied).
Kate Hudson on the other hand was recently spotted alone in NYC to promote her new film Nine, also starring Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Catherine Zeta Jones. Hey, it could be worse Kate. You could be a titless dumped girlfriend playing in a movie that’s going to be a box-office disaster. Oops, we were supposed to be supportive right there, weren’t we…

Catherine turned 40 and Michael turned 65. And because nothing says “I”m ready for Florida and a condo with nurse assisted living” better than a Hawaiian shirt and crazy Einstein white hair, Michael tried his best to look like he was escorting his grand-daughter out to dinner (here seen coming out of their NYC apartment and on their way to the restaurant).
