Mackenzie Phillips:incest with father was not consensual

Mackenzie Phillips, who released a memoir detailing her long-term sexual relationship with her father, Mamas and the Papas’ frontman John Phillips, now wants to redefine what she called a “consensual relationship” in her book.

“I’d like to reframe my word, ‘consensual,’” Phillips told Joy Behar on Behar’s HLN show.

“As I was writing the book, I thought, this word, it kept sitting wrong with me, but I used it for lack of a better word, and since then I’ve been schooled by thousands of incest survivors all across the world that there really is no such thing as consensual incest due to the inherent power a parent has over a child,” she said.

Phillips, the 49-year-old former child star and daughter of the Mamas and the Papas founder, wrote in her book that she had sex with her father the night before she was to marry Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones entourage, in 1979.

“On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it,” wrote Phillips, who was 19 at the time and a heavy drug user. “I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed.”

Phillips, best known as Julie Cooper on the sitcom “One Day at a Time,” wrote that the sexual relationship became consensual as her life began to spiral out of control.

During her time on the hit CBS comedy, which ran from 1975 to 1984, she battled drug addiction and underwent drug rehabilitation. She was fired from the show in 1980 because of her drug abuse.

Eventually, she and her father went to rehab together, and she later toured with him in a band called the New Mamas and the Papas.

“I was a fragment of a person, and my secret isolated me,” she wrote. “One night Dad said, ‘We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.’ ”

Phillips has led a troubled life that has included substance abuse and a 2008 arrest at Los Angeles International Airport on suspicion of cocaine and heroin possession.

She later pleaded guilty to one count of cocaine possession and was ordered to a drug rehab program.

Phillips’ career as an actress took off when, as a teen, she performed the role of Carol Morrison in the 1973 film “American Graffiti.”

In the late 1990s, her career experienced a revival when she began co-starring on “So Weird,” a Disney Channel program.

German popstar involved with sect and its naked time travel machine

In all honesty, this story doesn’t have much to do with Hollywood at all, but it does prove that Hollywood stars are not nearly as F***ed up as some of their European counterparts…no wait, we just got a mental image of Mackenzie Phillips riding her daddy’s pony…damn, here goes the argument. Anyway, it still makes one hell of an interesting story (from Bild.com):

German popstar Nena recently spent two days at the headquarters of a bizarre sect, which claims to have a working time machine that can only be used naked!

The 49-year-old – best known for pop anthem ’99 Red Balloons’ – is so fascinated by the Italian ‘Damanhur’ sect that she has even printed their secret disciple symbol on her new album.

But just how crazy is the communal organisation? And how dangerous could it be?

The group’s founder, Oberto Airaudi (59), claims to have the ability to implant the spirits of the dead into newborn babies. BILD sent a reporter to their underground headquarters where there is even a ‘naked time travel machine’.

The complex of the Damanhur sect – which was founded in 1975 – lies in the idyllic valley of Vidracco in Piedmont, 40 kilometres north of Turin.

But neighbours in the area fear the 700-member strong group and their colony in the shadow of the mountains.

“Everyone in the village is afraid of them. There are a lot of awful noises. They hunt down traitors. Even if they act as if the temple is a tourist attraction now,” one village resident said.

The road to the ‘City of Light’ is via a narrow street, and sign hangs above the entrance which reads: “The Nation of Damanhur”

Members have founded a town complete with schools and its own currency, and they even use a secret language which only they can understand.

Spokeswoman Esperende Ananas said: “What you see here is a wonderful world which anyone can be in. We don’t hide anything”

But disciples guard the entrance to the temple where they keep their greatest secret – a time travel machine.

Developed by founder Airudi himself, the machine can send people through time. Unfortunately the machine cannot transport clothing as well, so time travellers have to climb in completely naked.

Pietro Coticoni, a victim’s lawyer, said: “I know that their Gurus make people dependent on them – the women are sexually addicted to them. The cult makes people psychologically dependent.”

Mackenzie Phillips worked as a pregnant prostitute

And the revelations keep coming. Mackenzie Phillips used to sell her body while she was pregnant to help fund her spiralling drug habit, according to a new report by the National Inquirer.

The former child star stunned fans and family last month (Sep09) by going public with news of a 10-year incestuous relationship she had with her late father John, a singer with The Mamas & The Papas.

She details the incident in her new book High on Arrival, but according to a longtime family friend, that’s not all of Phillips’ secrets – she reportedly also worked as a high-class call girl to bring in the cash to pay for her drug habit.

The un-named insider tells the National Enquirer, “There’s a period in her life Mackenzie completely glossed over in her book. Drugs led her down the path to prostitution.

“Mackenzie fell into a friendship with a Hollywood madam and quickly found work as a jet-setting call girl. She was in her late 20s and pregnant with her son Shane.

“She was shooting cocaine and so strung out she couldn’t get work acting or singing, so she connected with a well-known Hollywood madam. Her clients were extremely high-end and extremely discreet. They’d take her on trips to exotic places. She was arm candy for them.

“…She said the really twisted thing was being hired specifically because she was pregnant. She made a lot of money quickly and used it on drugs.”

Phillips allegedly quit the call girl job when she gave birth to son Shane in 1987.

Mackenzie Phillips revelation Part II:She aborted her father’s child (with video)

Mackenzie Phillips, who admitted on Oprah that she had an incestuous relationship with her father, John Phillips, has also revealed that she believed the child she was carrying when she was married was not that of her then husband’s Shane Fontayne’s but that of her father’s (“Your father is supposed to protect you. Your father is supposed to protect you, not f*** you,” Phillips said, in what had to be the most chilling part of the interview).

John Phillips also thought that she was pregnant with his child and when Mackenzie went for an abortion, he paid for it. Mackenzie said she ended the affair after that and never let her father touch her again.

She also revealed that Mick Jagger, a close friend of her father’s back then, made advancements towards her when she was 18 (which ended up in the two of them allegedly locking themselves in the bedroom with her father banging the door and trying to stop them) and confessed he had his sights on her since she was 10 years old.

Mackenzie Phillips, the eldest daughter of the late John Phillips, frontman of the Mamas and the Papas, says her father raped her and that they later carried on a consensual incestuous relationship, People.com reported.

Phillips will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show today (Wednesday September 23) to discuss her new memoir, High on Arrival, and discuss her relationship with her father. The former One Day at a Time star says the first time she remembers her father having sex with her was when she was 19, the night before her wedding to Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones’ entourage. ”

On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it,” writes Phillips in her memoir, according to People. She says she passed out from drugs and woke up to find her father having sex with her.

She said after she was fired from One Day at a Time because of her struggle with drugs, she went on tour with the Mamas and the Papas and her sexual relationship with her father became consensual. He wanted them to run away to a country where their sexual activities would be acceptable, she said. “He was completely delusional,” she wrote. “No, I thought, we’re going to hell for this.”
